Behavior response, growth, and structure of the eye retinal layer in juvenile Seabass, Lates calcarifer: Light-induced changes

چکیده

Light is a key environmental factor that strongly related to fish activity and behavior. Exposure certain wavelengths known affect growth performance survival of teleost larvae juveniles. Our study aimed determine the effects exposure three light sources [red (710 nm), blue (453 nm) green (510 nm)] on performance, behavioral response, visibility (time eat, in minutes), structure retinal layer juvenile [approx. 4.3 cm total length (N = 30)] seabass (Lates calcarifer). Fish were acclimated conditions for four weeks prior data collection. Behavioral responses, including schooling organization, swimming speed, time consume prey, feeding all improved juveniles reared under red nm). Preliminary histological observations revealed from red-light environment have thickest retina layers highest density photoreceptors. suggest useful aquaculture L. calcarifer.

Identification and Characterization of 63 MicroRNAs in the Asian Seabass Lates calcarifer

BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the regulation of many fundamental biological processes. So far miRNAs have been only identified in a few fish species, although there are over 30,000 fish species living under different environmental conditions on the earth. Here, we described an approach to identify conserved miRNAs and characterized their expression patterns in differen...

Analysis of Stress-Responsive Transcriptome in the Intestine of Asian Seabass (Lates calcarifer) using RNA-Seq

Identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and regulated pathways in response to stressors using a whole-genome approach is critical to understanding the mechanisms underlying stress responses. We challenged Asian seabass with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), Vibrio harveyi, high salinity and fasting, and sequenced six cDNA libraries of intestine samples using Roche 454 RNA-seq. Over 1 mi...

Defining essential fatty acid deficiency in juvenile barramundi Lates calcarifer

Barramundi (Lates calcarifer), a catadromous teleost of significant and growing commercial importance, are reported to have limited fatty acid bioconversion capability, typical of marine species, and therefore require preformed long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) as dietary essential fatty acid (EFA). In this study, the response of juvenile barramundi (47.0 g/fish initial weight) f...

Nutrigenomic and Nutritional Analyses Reveal the Effects of Pelleted Feeds on Asian Seabass (Lates calcarifer)

As nutrition-related expenses constitute the majority of the costs for aquaculture farms, it is essential for them to use feeds that provide an ideal combination of nutrients for the species of choice. In this study, the relative effect of consuming three different pelleted feeds (B, C and D) in comparison to frozen baitfish (A; control) were compared on juvenile Asian seabass (77.3 ± 22.4g) th...

Primary analysis of repeat elements of the Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) transcriptome and genome

As part of our Asian seabass genome project, we are generating an inventory of repeat elements in the genome and transcriptome. The karyotype showed a diploid number of 2n = 24 chromosomes with a variable number of B-chromosomes. The transcriptome and genome of Asian seabass were searched for repetitive elements with experimental and bioinformatics tools. Six different types of repeats constitu...
